The canton of Aargau is one of the largest cantons in German-speaking Switzerland in terms of area and borders the cantons of Zurich, Basel-Landschaft, Solothurn, Bern, Zug, and Lucerne. The largest cities—Aarau, Baden, Wettingen, Brugg, and Rheinfelden—are well connected to Zurich by S-Bahn. Depending on your destination within the canton of Aargau, travel times, parking regulations, and access conditions for furniture transport can vary significantly:

  • Baden: The largest city in the Limmat Valley, located directly on the A1. S-Bahn lines S6 and S12, about 20 minutes from Zurich Central Station. Note: The city center has a general parking ban; freight handling is permitted only during designated time slots. Apply for a parking permit well in advance (at least 5 business days’ notice).

  • Wettingen: Directly adjacent to Baden, S-Bahn S12 (Brugg–Zurich Central Station), about 25 minutes to Zurich Central Station. Densely populated residential area; be sure to arrange parking in advance.

  • Aarau (county seat): S-Bahn SN1 (Aarau–Brugg–Zurich Central Station), about 35 minutes to Zurich Central Station. The city of Aarau has its own parking regulations; apply to the Aarau City Police for no-parking permits.

  • Brugg: S-Bahn lines S11 and S12, about 30 minutes to Zurich Central Station. Small-town layout; check access options near the old town well in advance.

  • Rheinfelden: A border town with Germany, served by the S1 S-Bahn (Basel SBB – Zurich HB), about 50 minutes from Zurich HB. Particularly relevant for international moves to and from Germany.

Parking and No-Stopping Zones in the Canton of Aargau

There is no uniform cantonal parking regulation in the canton of Aargau. Each municipality has its own system. As a general rule:

Residential areas in most municipalities in Aargau have a “White Zone” where parking discs are required, typically with a maximum time limit of 2 to 6 hours. Depending on the size of the move, this is usually sufficient for a moving truck. In city centers (especially Baden and Aarau), a no-stopping zone or special permit is required, which must be requested from the respective city police department.

Registration and Deregistration in the Canton of Aargau

Anyone moving to a municipality in Aargau must register within 14 days of the move-in date. The Canton of Aargau offers the cantonal platform eUmzug Aargau (ag.ch) for this purpose, which allows residents to register, deregister, or change their address online 24 hours a day.

Important: In the canton of Aargau, there are two additional follow-up reports that are not required in the canton of Zurich:

  • Aargau Road Traffic Office: Change of address on vehicle registration and driver’s license within 14 days of registering with the municipality.

  • Dog Ownership: Update the owner’s information in the AMICUS system within 10 days (for new owners).

Housing Allocation in the Canton of Aargau

A move-out cleaning is a deep cleaning of the apartment that the landlord will accept as complete upon the return of the property: kitchen, oven, fixtures, floors, and windows, all in accordance with tenancy law standards. We perform the move-out cleaning immediately following the move-out date. Upon request, we can also handle the disposal of household goods and bulky items on the same day.

We perform the move-out cleaning in accordance with industry standards, with a guarantee of acceptance. If the property management company requests touch-ups, we will return at no additional cost.

(H3) What is the difference between a full-service relocation and a partial-service relocation?

With our full-service option, we take care of everything: disassembly and assembly of all furniture (including USM Haller), furniture protection, all transportation, insurance, parking arrangements, and—upon request—cleaning and waste disposal. With our partial-service option, you can choose individual services. We’ll determine which option makes the most sense for you during the on-site visit.

For relocations within the canton of Aargau, we recommend planning at least 3 to 4 weeks in advance. It’s especially advisable to book early for locations where parking arrangements are more complicated, particularly in Baden and Aarau. During the peak relocation season from March to September, availability fills up quickly.
