From the moment you decide to move:

  • Termination of the old tenancy agreement (in writing by registered letter)
    If you are terminating the tenancy agreement outside of the agreed period, you should start looking for a new tenant early enough. By law, you are only obliged to present a solvent and reasonable new tenant who will take over the apartment. However, the tenant protection association recommends finding two to three new tenants.

3 months before Relocation:

  • Inform your employer, friends and family about the relocation

    • Inform the employer of the approximate period of the day off for Relocation.
    • Organize possible care for the children and/or pets on the day of the move.
    • Organize any helpers for the day of the move.
  • Draw up a list of defects in the old home and compare it with the handover protocol

    • Make a list of the defects you have caused and find out about the amortization period of the respective objects.
    • Carry out any repairs and/or commission tradesmen.
  • Measure your new home and/or apply for a floor plan

    • Plan the furnishings for your new home and draw up a layout plan.
    • Order any new furniture for the date of the Relocation or afterwards in the new home.
  • Clearing out

    Find out which furniture and objects are being sold, given away, disposed of and/or left behind. Especially the cellar, attic and garage.

  • Cancel insurance policies and subscriptions and/or have them ported to the day of the move

    • Organize the switch to the new household in writing with the household contents and liability insurance, the electricity provider and the media providers (telephone, TV, Internet).
    • Arrange the meter reading date with the electricity, water and/or gas supplier.
  • Relocation to another district/city or region

    Register children in the desired educational learning institution (crèche, playgroup, kindergarten, school and/or after-school care).

  • Clarify access options at the move-out and move-in address early enough

    • Possible passage for barriers on the day of the move. This can usually be organized with the administration and/or the janitor.
    • Clarify possible weight loads for settlements with underground parking garage substructures.
    • Possibly clarify the possibility of providing a furniture lift if no elevator is available and there are several floors to climb.

1 to 2 months before Relocation:

  • Notification of the new address and the definitive moving date

    • Removal company, relatives, friends and acquaintances.
    • Apply to your employer for the annual day off for the moving day.
    • Banks, insurance companies, member associations and other contractual partners.
    • Commissioning the post office for forwarding from the date of relocation.
  • Conclusion of new subscriptions and/or contracts

    Household contents and liability insurance, electricity provider and media provider (telephone, TV, Internet).

  • Organization of the packaging material and preparation of the packaging

    • Rarely used goods should already be packed and stored in a corner of your home or in a storage unit. It is best to mark the boxes according to where they are to be transported.
    • Use up as much of the remaining food as possible before moving day. Fresh products in particular, which have to be stored in the fridge, and frozen products are very difficult to transport on the day of the move without letting the goods spoil.

  • Preparing the cleaning of the old home

    • Request a cleaning checklist from the landlord.
    • Lightly pre-clean any stubborn and/or forgotten areas.

2 weeks before Relocation:

  • Scheduling the definitive handover dates

    • Appointment with the landlord and the new tenant for the handover of the old home.
    • Appointment with the landlord and the previous tenant to take over the new home.
    • Inform the removal company and all those involved of the dates.
  • Preparation of the Relocation

    • Pack any goods that are not currently in use in moving boxes and store them in a corner, room or in the utility room. It is best to mark the boxes according to where they are to be transported.
    • Clear out the cellar, screed and garage and get things ready for transportation.
    • Remove soil from plant pots and/or keep the soil very dry, as the water in the soil makes the pots much heavier.
    • Arrange for any parking lot closures for the moving day with the local police station or municipal administration.

1 week before Relocation:

  • Inform residents about moving day

    • Inform neighbors about the moving day when you move out.
    • Inform neighbors at the move-in address about the moving day.
  • Preparation of the Relocation

    • Pack all goods, except used clothes and kitchen items, safely and neatly before the relocation and store them in a corner, room or storage unit in the apartment. It is best to mark the boxes according to where they are to be transported.
    • Use up the food in your household before the Relocation. Frozen and fresh products in particular are difficult to transport during a relocation.

1 – 2 days before Relocation:

  • Check the electricity, water and/or gas consumption for the last period

    If possible, check the meter reading of your electricity, water and/or gas meter for your household together with your provider one day before Relocation so that you can check your provider’s final bill correctly last.

  • Preparation of the Relocation

    • Pack the last used clothes in laundry bags and pack the last kitchen items safely and neatly. It is best to mark the boxes according to where they are to be transported.
    • Place all moving boxes in the hallway or in a room near the entrance without blocking the way. The boxes are loaded first.
    • Defrost the fridge and freezer and roughly clean the inside.
    • Provide food, baby items, clothes and/or items for the pet in a few specially marked moving boxes. Provide any tools you may need yourself.
    • It is best to provide good lighting in your new home.
    • Once again instruct any child and/or pet care on the day of the move.
    • It is best to check your own furniture and rented property for existing damage one day before relocation and record this, as well as in the stairwell and at the move-in address. This guarantees a quick settlement in the event of an insurance claim. Report any existing damage at the move-in address to the landlord in writing in advance.
  • If you don’t have time and/or want to save yourself the work of packing

    We are happy to offer you our packing service to save you time and/or work. For a full-day packing service, it is best to book one day in advance and for a half-day or three-hour packing service, the afternoon before the day of the move. If the packing time is less than 3 hours, packing can also be done on the day of the move at the start of the Relocation.

On moving day:

  • Ensuring a well-functioning workflow

    • When the employees arrive, conduct a tour with the team leader and give all instructions.
    • Bring personal effects that you want to transport yourself into the car or put them in a place ready for transportation.
    • If necessary, provide access for the furniture lift.
    • Ongoing flow of information with the team about which goods are to be transported to the new home and which are to be transported to the cellar, attic, garage, second address and/or warehouse. Ideally, the boxes should all be marked according to their destination when they are packed.
    • When leaving the move-out address, always check with the team leader that everything has been taken as discussed.
    • At the move-in address, it is best to have someone in the home and someone in front of the home at the entrance. The person in the home instructs the team on how to position the interior using the layout plan. The person in front of the home instructs the team which goods are to be transported to the cellar, attic and/or garage.
    • If necessary, have the access for the furniture lift ready again.
    • At the end of the relocation, carry out a tour with the team leader to check the assembly work carried out and the correct positioning of the furniture and other furnishings.

After Relocation:

  • In the event of damage

    Inform the removal company immediately in writing within three calendar days by e-mail or by post, documented with photographic material.

  • Final theses

    • Cleaning the old home.

    We will be happy to clean your home for you and provide you with an acceptance guarantee. We are present during the delivery date and fully vouch for the cleaning.

    • Handing over the old home to the landlord.
    • Unpack the goods packed in boxes. Freezers and refrigerators may only be put into operation after 24 hours.
    • Registration in the new district, city or region.
    • Archiving of relocation receipts and invoices for the tax return.
    • When you have finished unpacking in peace and quiet, we will be happy to return any packaging material you have rented to us.
  • If you don’t have time and/or want to save yourself the work of unpacking

    We are happy to offer you our unpacking service to save you time and/or work. For a full-day unpacking service, the best time is the day after and for a half-day or three-hour unpacking service, the afternoon after the moving day.
